F.I.R.S.T. = For Inspiration & Recognition of Science & Technology
FIRST is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing children’s interest in science, technology, math, and engineering. Their mission is to inspire young people to be technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs. These programs strive to foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.
Freeland teams have participated at various levels of robotics for the past few years. Freeland Community Schools and the Robotics Club are trying to get more teams involved in this great educational and fun after school program. In order to offer robotics to more students, WE NEED ADULT MENTORS to assist the coaches.
Teams typically form in late summer or early fall. Elementary and Middle School teams practice August - November and typically compete in November - December. High school teams practice January - February and compete in March - April. Off season activities, such as fundraising, training, and outreach programs, are required for Middle and High School robotics students.
